Sustainable Business Developer (zero emission shipping)

Do you have a passion for new and sustainable technologies as well as developing strong relationships with multiple stakeholders across the value chain? Future Proof Shipping is looking for an engaging and communicative Sustainable Business Developer to join their innovative team and contribute to the success of FPS’ commercial and research projects.

Function

As Sustainable Business Developer you will find and initiate new projects, lead the delivery of complex sustainability and innovation-related work programmes and foster collaborative international networks.

Specific duties in this role include:

  • Support communication activities and act as company’s external spokesperson with media, government and non-governmental stakeholders.
  • Be the ‘content expert’ on sustainability topics in shipping and logistics.
  • Perform continuous scan of the market and provide input to the team on relevant developments.
  • Identify, build and manage partnerships with commercial, technology, NGO and research partners.
  • Prepare grant proposals with the help of the engineering, operations and finance team.Prepare investment proposals supported by the finance team.
  • Assess the sustainable shipping and logistics market, scout for opportunities and establish partnerships and connections with cargo owners and stakeholders across the value chain.
  • Prepare and present management reports and support strategic decision making.
  • Report to CEO.
  • Manage one direct report.

Requirements

  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders, initiating projects based on a company’s long term strategy and building coalitions.
  • Minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience across climate innovation, with experience in driving projects linked to the development of climate technology in a hard-to-abate sector.
  • Ideally, a degree in a relevant management, economics and or scientific/engineering discipline.
  • Excellent planning, prioritisation and project management skills.
  • Ability to lead the delivery of complex multi-stakeholder sustainability and or innovation-related work programmes.
  • Well-honed skills in fostering collaborative international networks and experience in influencing and persuading others at senior levels of industry, investors, government, and others.
  • Adaptable, creative and a strategic thinker who can move from planning to implementation with ease.
  • A strong team player with excellent interpersonal, communication and engagement skills, with the ability to build, maintain, and leverage relationships both internally and across multiple external stakeholder groups.
  • Fluent in English with first-class writing, presentation, facilitation and communication skills, including in connection with detailed technical material.

Company

Future Proof Shipping B.V. (FPS) (www.futureproofshipping.com), offers zero-emissions shipping services to enable players across the value chain make the transition to zero-emissions. As a zero-emissions vessel owner, FPS aims to build and operate a fleet of 10 zero-emission inland and short-sea vessels over the next five years which they will offer for charter to logistics service providers and cargo owners. FPS also facilitates other shipowners and stakeholders in the maritime sector who are ready to make the shift to zero-emissions, through technical support as well as project development and management.

In 2023, FPS will complete the retrofit its first inland vessel, FPS Maas, to sail on hydrogen fuel cells and transport container cargo between The Netherlands and Belgium. Although fuel cells and hydrogen have already been tested in the marine industry, FPS expects this to be the first to demonstrate such a system for main propulsion at this scale, and in commercial operations.
